In the shadowed hills of the Ozarks, a crumbling manor holds a family that seems stitched together from nightmares. Enid Mandifer has been raised by the enigmatic Persil, a gaunt man whose foreign‑tongued riddles hint at ancient curses, and his hulking son Larue, whose muttering promises of violence fill the rooms with dread. As the Civil War blazes beyond the estate, the house becomes a pressure cooker of fear and intrigue, and Enid discovers that the life she has been groomed for may be a trap laid long before her birth.
When Persil announces a marriage already arranged by unseen hands, the thin line between duty and horror begins to fray. Enigmatic symbols, a mysterious crucifix, and the lingering presence of long‑dead figures whisper of powers beyond the ordinary. Listeners are drawn into a world where loyalty, identity, and the very notion of family are tested against a backdrop of unsettling, otherworldly menace.
