Transcriber's Note:
In a post‑revolutionary state that proudly proclaims personal liberty, the shadows of the old regime still linger. Josip Pekic, a cautious university student, awakens to a midnight knock that drags him back to the night his father vanished under the weight of political purges. Though the official narrative now brands his father a rehabilitated hero, Josip feels the same cold dread as he is ushered into a black limousine by three faceless agents.
The story follows Josip’s uneasy ride through a city where the language of “comrade” masks an uncertain calculus of loyalty and fear. As he watches the silent, expressionless enforcers, he wrestles with a vague sense of guilt and an inability to pinpoint any real offense. The narrative paints a vivid portrait of a society trying to move beyond its past while its citizens remain haunted by the very memories it claims to have erased.
