Description

In the seaside town of Lymport-on-the-Sea, the death of the beloved tailor Melchisedec Harrington sends ripples through the close‑knit community. Known as “the great Mel,” he was as generous with his handshakes as he was with his credit, earning both admiration and envy. His sudden refusal of medical aid and quiet passing leave the townsfolk wondering how they will fill the void left by a man who seemed inseparable from the town’s daily life.

As gossip swirls among the local publican, butcher, and confectioner, questions arise about the future of his shop, his debts, and the fate of his widow. Servants and creditors alike recount his eccentric habits and the many favors he extended, hinting at hidden obligations and unspoken promises. The story follows the early days of this transition, drawing listeners into a portrait of loyalty, intrigue, and the quiet drama that unfolds when a community’s cornerstone disappears.
