Juko Pynninen is barely three years old, yet he already moves through the world with a confidence that belies his age. His mother dotes on him, keeping him close to her breast far longer than any child should, and she gently coaxes him toward the adult habits she wishes he will adopt. Wrapped in this tender yet encouraging affection, Juko learns to mimic the gestures and speech of the men around him, standing with his hands in his pockets and speaking with a surprising gravitas.
