A warm summer night drapes the Danube in a hush, broken only by the distant call of a departing captain and the soft sigh of a lone steam‑rising boat slipping away from the island. Lanterns flicker along the shore, their yellow light spilling onto the water like stray fireflies, while a creaking mill rises in the distance, its façades glowing against the dark sky. The island, suddenly emptied of travelers, settles into an intimate quiet, the air tinged with the faint perfume of tuberose that seems to float on every breath.
Two young women wander among the overgrown paths, their voices low as they share idle jokes about distant waterfalls and the promise of secret swims. The night deepens around them, the scent of blooming roses and jasmine mingling with the cool river mist, while distant oars tap a slow rhythm that stirs their curiosity. In this secluded world, the island feels both a sanctuary and a mystery, inviting the girls—and the listener—to linger over the delicate balance of beauty and an undercurrent of quiet longing.
