A mischievous young prince, born to a widowed king, finds himself constantly scolded for his perpetual dirtiness. His stepmother, eager to replace him with her own child, relegates the boy to the lowly role of shepherd, feeding him only stale, sour‑flavored bread. Fed up, the prince escapes into the wilderness, where the forest seems endless and the night feels threatening.
In the depths of the woods he discovers a towering tree that shelters a tiny house, its windows glowing with candlelight. Inside, a wise, branch‑like companion offers him a massive book, inviting the prince to sit in a grand chair and read. The story hints that the pages hold more than mere words, promising knowledge that could change his fate.
Guided by this strange mentor, the prince is sent on a peculiar quest: to tend a flock of magical geese that rise into the sky, each carrying a glittering golden ring. Yet a cunning princess watches from her window, ready to tempt him with sweet promises. As the adventure unfolds, the prince must decide whether to trust the enchantments around him or follow his own wits.
