Description

A group of spirited youngsters gathers each October, their curiosity steering them toward wildly different passions. Edward lives for the intricate details of military regiments, reciting colors, mottos and ranks as though they were poetry. Selina, never having seen a ship, can summon the grand battles of the Royal Navy with the same certainty as the narrator, who maps the habits of American wildlife from bison to rattlesnakes.

Their playful rivalry fuels a year of inventive projects, secret research and the occasional heated debate over the proper preparation of pemmican. Harold’s uncanny knack for finding hidden nests adds a dash of mystique, while the narrator weaves together all these threads into a tapestry of youthful adventure. The story captures the joyous chaos of growing up with boundless interests, hinting at the friendships and follies that will shape their “golden age” of imagination.
