A determined young man named Marty Isherwood has only one goal: to become the first pilot of a manned rocket bound for the moon. Growing up in a modest household, his ambitions are met with derision from his father and bewildered concern from his mother, who see his dream as an impossible fantasy in a world that has yet to build a launch vehicle. The clash between Marty’s fierce conviction and his family’s practical doubts fuels a restless energy that drives him out of the family home and onto a path few have imagined.
Enrolled in a rigorous university program, Marty refuses to settle for a conventional career, opting instead for a series of demanding courses in astronomy, celestial navigation, and engineering. His faculty advisor, skeptical and weary, pushes him toward a traditional degree, while Marty insists that the stars are more than points on a chart—they’re the very destination he must reach. As the semester unfolds, the tension between institutional expectations and Marty’s singular obsession begins to shape the stakes of his daring pursuit.
