Description

Dainty Chase is a bright, newly‑graduated schoolgirl from modest means, invited by her generous aunt to spend the summer at a grand country house in the mountains of West Virginia. The invitation promises a reprieve from her cramped life and a chance to mingle with the well‑off, but it also awakens the envy of her cousins, Olive and Ela, who view Dainty’s presence as a threat to their own ambitions of securing a wealthy husband. As the girls prepare for the journey, Dainty’s quiet optimism clashes with the cousins’ sharp sarcasm, setting the stage for a tense yet hopeful gathering.

Among the guests is Lovelace Ellsworth, a handsome young man returning from Europe, whose arrival sparks whispered expectations and subtle maneuvering. While Dainty clings to her simple goodness and hopes for a bright future, the contrast between her humble attire and the elegant surroundings underscores the social hurdles she must navigate. Listeners will be drawn into the delicate dance of rivalry, longing, and the promise of a summer that could change Dainty’s life forever.
