Description

In the rolling woodlands of the New Forest, Cradock Nowell and Amy Rosedew have just sealed their union beneath a moonlit sky, setting the stage for a summer of new responsibilities and whispered expectations. Their marriage draws together a lively circle of friends and acquaintances, each eager to play their part in the social tapestry of country life.

Soon after, the couple is invited to dine at the imposing Kettledrum Hall, a grand yet slightly crumbling estate that looms over the surrounding countryside. As the guests navigate the rough roads and the hall’s ostentatious architecture, subtle rivalries surface—particularly between the inquisitive Rosa and the enigmatic Mrs. Kettleburn—while a sudden bout of ill health threatens to upend Rosa’s carefully rehearsed plans. Amid polite conversation and genteel hospitality, the characters begin to test each other’s wits, hinting at deeper intrigues that will shape the days to come.
