Colonel Washington

In the winter of 1753 the Ohio River valley simmered with rumors of French encroachment, and the Virginia governor needed a trusted messenger who could move across untamed lands, negotiate with hostile tribes, and assess the strategic terrain. The colony turned to a young Major George Washington, a recent surveyor of Lord Fairfax’s western holdings whose knowledge of mathematics, maps, and frontier life set him apart from the seasoned officers of the day.
