Description

In the humid heat of a Paris summer, a former hussar wanders the bustling boulevards with only three francs to his name. Tall, handsome, and brimming with restless ambition, he scans the cafés and salons, measuring himself against the well‑dressed men who sip their drinks with ease. The city’s smoky streets and opulent cafés become a backdrop for his desperate calculations, as he dreams of swapping poverty for power.

A chance encounter with an old army comrade opens a doorway to the world of journalism, where influence is bought and sold as readily as a glass of wine. Through lively conversations and whispered promises, the protagonist learns how charm and manipulation can lift a man from the margins to the center of high society. As he begins to navigate the intricate web of politics, romance, and scandal, the reader is drawn into a portrait of a man whose relentless drive may prove both his greatest asset and his most dangerous flaw.
