Description

A Roman nobleman, once basking in wealth, political favor and a promised marriage, finds his world shattered by a single careless mistake. In the summer of AD 184, a trusted friend’s reckless act and a secretary’s slip set in motion a cascade of events that strips him of status, property, and even the illusion of safety under the emperor’s eye. Forced to confront the harsh reality of exile, he must decide whether to accept his fate or to engineer a daring escape.

Choosing the latter, he stages his own death, adopts a humble disguise, and slips into the bustling streets of Rome as a commoner. Guided by a clever slave, he learns to survive among the very people he once ruled over, uncovering both the city’s hidden hardships and unexpected alliances. Listeners will be drawn into his vivid recollections of betrayal, resourceful ingenuity, and the precarious balance between honor and survival in the empire’s shadowy underbelly.
