Description

A reluctant Greek force is drawn into Persia’s royal power struggle, summoned by the exiled prince Cyrus who hopes to wrest the throne from his brother Artaxerxes. The narrative opens with court intrigues, whispered conspiracies, and a clandestine buildup of a mercenary army eager to prove its worth. As the Greeks gather under seasoned commanders, they step into a landscape where loyalty, ambition, and danger mingle on every horizon.

Once the expedition sets out, the soldiers confront unfamiliar terrain, fierce opposition, and the harsh realities of marching far from home. Xenophon’s vivid, first‑hand account captures the grit of the troops, the challenges of supply and morale, and the emergence of unexpected leadership amid crisis. Listeners are treated to an immersive portrait of ancient warfare, camaraderie, and the thin line between triumph and disaster, all told with the clear, unvarnished voice of someone who lived it.
