Born in 356 BCE to the Macedonian king Philip II and his queen, a young prince grew up amid the turbulence of court intrigue and military ambition. Tutored by the philosopher Aristotle, he absorbed lessons in philosophy, science, and strategy that would shape his relentless curiosity about the wider world. Even before his coronation, his formidable physical stamina and charismatic presence set him apart as a leader destined for greatness.
At twenty, he seized the throne and quickly set his sights beyond Macedon, crossing the Hellespont to begin a daring Asian campaign. His early victories against the Persian satraps displayed both bold tactics and a capacity for swift, decisive action, while his generosity toward conquered peoples earned him both admiration and uneasy loyalty. The narrative follows his youthful vigor, strategic brilliance, and the complex mix of ambition and compassion that defined the first phase of his meteoric rise.
