Description

In a ramshackle courtyard of the fictional village Hölmölä, a motley cast of peasants, a self‑styled “herrastuomari,” and a wandering minstrel‑wizard tumble through a chaotic morning of sleepless banter and absurd rituals. Jaska, the drunken patriarch of Ala‑Hölm, awakens clutching a money‑filled fish‑net, while Epra, his rival, twirls a sausage stick like a scepter. Their conversations drift between lofty‑sounding proclamations and petty squabbles, setting a tone that is both wildly surreal and oddly familiar.

Amid the clatter of creaking doors and the smell of tarred wood, Mesakki the fiddler brandishes a curious “unisauva” that supposedly awakens sleepers from divine dreams. He and the pompous herrastuomari Tikka spar over the nature of sleep, law, and the village’s mysterious “riikin maanjakaja,” hinting at an upcoming attempt to settle an ancient dispute. Their humorous wordplay paints a vivid picture of a community caught between tradition and far‑cooked ambition.

Listeners will be drawn into the lively, rib‑tickling world of Hölmölä, where every line feels like a folk‑song verse and each character’s quirks invite both laughter and a gentle reflection on the absurdities of everyday life.
