
Alyar and his companion Bru belong to a clan that makes its home on the tangled hair of a colossal, caterpillar‑shaped beast. Their daily life is a delicate balance of climbing, scouting, and listening for the distant rumble of another creature that could be friend or foe. When a massive silhouette appears on the horizon, the two scouts race back to their leader, Paboss, to report the sighting and gauge the danger.
Paboss, a grizzled veteran of past clashes with the rival Jaksin clan, offers a mix of caution and curiosity. He recounts old raids and the tangled politics that keep the clans from outright war, while the young hunters weigh the thrill of a night‑time approach against the harsh cold. The story immerses listeners in a world where survival hinges on understanding the strange beasts they inhabit and the fragile alliances between rival peoples.
