Description

On a bright May morning in the early nineteenth century, Peter Taylor surveys his sprawling estate on Blennerhassett Island, where the polished lawns, white‑painted mansion, and the glittering Ohio River create a tableau of genteel ambition. He watches his overseer direct the plantation’s enslaved laborers, their rhythmic toil a stark counterpoint to the idyllic scenery. The house, an architectural curiosity with its sweeping semicircular portico and vibrant green shutters, stands as both a symbol of cultivated refinement and a looming reminder of the natural forces that may one day test its foundations.

Soon an eccentric visitor arrives, setting off a chain of introductions that weave together scholars, conspirators, and the island’s own colorful inhabitants. As friendships deepen and secret motives surface, the tranquil veneer of river life begins to crack, hinting at hidden rivalries, whispered romances, and the restless yearning for power that drives the characters forward. The stage is set for a tale where personal ambition and the currents of history converge on the banks of the river.
