Description

A desperate retreat across a bleak moor sets the stage for this sweeping tale. Five brothers, sons of a humble minister, fight a hopeless battle against a larger, relentless force, their only hope lying in the stone walls of a distant manse. The story opens with a fierce clash of stone‑thrown weapons and a young, uncanny marksman named Whaup who tries to hold the line. As darkness gathers over the sea‑kissed hills, the tension of survival twists into an uneasy promise of refuge.

Into this turmoil arrives Coquette, a striking young woman whose presence brings both comfort and complication. She quickly becomes entangled with the wounded brothers, the stoic schoolmaster, and the shadowed secrets of the manor. Music, faith, and whispered promises hint at deeper currents that will shape her destiny, while the rugged Scottish landscape frames a narrative of love, duty, and the lingering echo of war.
