In a remote land of Uz lives a man renowned for his wealth and integrity. Blessed with a large family, abundant livestock, and a thriving household, he is known for his devotion, regularly offering sacrifices on behalf of his children. His reputation as a blameless, God‑fearing figure spreads throughout the east.
One day, the divine council gathers, and a challenger questions whether his piety is genuine. Soon after, a series of calamities strike: raiders seize his herds, fire consumes his flocks, and a sudden storm destroys his children's feast, leaving him bereft. Despite the devastation, he tears his garments, mourns openly, and affirms his trust in the divine.
The trial deepens when a painful affliction spreads across his skin, and even his wife urges him to renounce his faith. He rebuffs her counsel, insisting that such counsel is folly, and clings to his conviction. His response sets the stage for a profound exploration of suffering and belief.
