In the cold reaches of the Dryodean system, interstellar haulers rely on the battered Galactic Guidebook to chart their routes and find refuge. When veteran trucker Bill Brack’s cargo of deluplasm forces an unexpected layover at Corbie’s Hotel Eros, he discovers a place where gravity is a little off, the water is magnetic, and the menu is all synthetic. Hungry for a taste of real food, he vents his frustration into the hotel’s intercom, setting off a chain of small, human moments amid the chrome and circuitry.

The voice that answers belongs to Esther, a young woman whose family runs the station. Though she’s bright‑eyed and eager to help, her smile hides a quiet desperation—she’s been anchored to the outpost for years, denied the freedom that the stars promise. As Brack and Esther trade barbs and wishes over a table of artificial fare, listeners glimpse life on the fringe of space, where ordinary cravings can spark unexpected connections.
