Description

Two little kittens, one yellow and one black, set out from a bustling farm where they were just another pair among many. Tired from a long, dusty road, they knock on several doors until a sweet girl finally opens hers and welcomes them inside. After a gentle bath, the girl gives them the endearing names Fluff and Puff, and the kittens finally feel they have found a home.

Life in the house quickly proves as chaotic as it is cozy. Their playful antics—climbing curtains, tangling in yarn, and chasing a daring mouse through the cellar—lead to spilled ink, scattered paper, and a toppled fish dinner. Frustrated, the girl scolds them and, after a stern punishment, the twins slip away, disappearing into the countryside.

Now the family embarks on a hopeful search, wondering if the adventurous twins will return to the warmth of the home they briefly claimed.

Edna Groff Deihl

1881–1935

Best remembered for warm, old-fashioned children's stories, this early 20th-century writer created tales about stubborn puppies, kittens, chicks, and rabbits that were meant to gently teach everyday lessons. Her books now survive mainly in library catalogs, archives, and the memories of vintage picture-book collectors.
