In a moonlit Washington garden, reporter Mike is thrust into a sudden melee when his colleague Bill Porter wrestles a tiny, desperate assailant. The struggle ends with Bill pulling a massive, silent gun—an experimental solenoid weapon—out of the dirt, its sleek bolt glinting in the patchy light. As the bizarre firearm is fitted and readied, the two men realize they’ve stumbled onto something far more than a garden scuffle.
The target is none other than Pierre Dampier, the reclusive French physicist whose name once rang alongside Einstein and Heisenberg, now poised to strike the Middle‑European ambassador with his silent projectile. Caught between secret‑service eyes and the urge to break the story, Mike and Bill must decide whether to expose the plot or let the authorities handle it. Their choice will thrust them into a shadowy world where cutting‑edge science meets political intrigue.
