Antigone

In the aftermath of a bitter civil war, Thebes lies in uneasy peace under the rule of Creon, the new king and uncle of the fallen brothers. He issues a stark edict: the heroic Eteocles will receive full honors, while his rival Polynices is condemned to remain unburied, his body left exposed as a warning. The decree divides the city, pitting the authority of law against ancient customs of respect for the dead.

Against this backdrop, Antigone, driven by fierce devotion to her brother, resolves to defy the royal command and give Polynices a proper burial, even if it means risking the king’s wrath. Her sister Ismene hesitates, torn between loyalty to family and fear of punishment, highlighting the personal stakes of the conflict. The tension between civic order and familial duty sets the stage for a powerful drama that questions the limits of obedience and the price of conscience.
