An ancient, sentient energy known as the Bryd awakens from a long slumber just as a human mind spirals into crisis. The disturbance comes from Dale Stevenson, a physicist stationed on a massive orbital mirror that bathes Paris in artificial night‑time sunlight. With only a fraction of a second to assess the situation, the Bryd must decide whether to intervene in a human’s desperate gamble.
The sun‑station, a three‑mile‑wide floating platform positioned at a gravitational neutral point, is designed to reflect sunlight onto the City of Light. When Stevenson prepares to fire the mirror’s lenses in a way that could scorch the streets below, the Bryd faces a dilemma: respect its policy of non‑interference or act to protect a world it barely understands. Listeners are drawn into a tense, high‑tech showdown that explores the fragile balance between immortal curiosity and human impulsiveness.
