A lone traveler trudges through the icy, windswept roads of South Ostrobothnia, his carriage suddenly crippled by a broken wheel. With the night closing in, he and his steadfast coachman limp toward a distant homestead whose windows glow with a warm, inviting light. The journey, already fraught with the harshness of a frozen landscape, now turns into a desperate search for shelter and a chance to repair the battered conveyance.
The manor they reach belongs to a prosperous landowner, its courtyard ringed by outbuildings and a prowling dog that greets the newcomers. Inside, a grand hall is set for the traditional Kekri‑aatto feast: a long table laden with steaming dishes, richly decorated mugs, and candles that cast a soft glow over the polished floor. Yet the room is eerily empty, the celebratory atmosphere hanging in suspense as the host’s family prepares to welcome their guests.
As the traveler steps further into the festively lit interior, he senses that the holiday’s customary generosity may conceal secrets of its own, hinting at a mystery that lies just beyond the first welcoming smile.
