On a rust‑colored plain of ancient Mars, a lone smith named Kortha toils in his furnace, haunted by the violence he has wrought and the weight of a secret machine that could change the world. His massive, gorilla‑like frame and fearsome strength are matched only by a deep‑seated dread of what his own hands might unleash. When Ilse, a fierce and charismatic woman from the Confederacy, bursts into his workshop, she reminds him of the political turmoil swirling across the planet and the desperate need for his genius.
The coveted engine, said to be the key to Mars’ wealth, has drawn the attention of the ruthless politician Guantra, who seeks to bind the planet to Earth‑Venus conflicts, and of the fallen leader Hurlgut, whose fate hangs in the balance. As rival factions plot and the desert threatens to erupt in war, Kortha must choose whether to unlock the machine’s power or let it remain buried. Listeners are drawn into a clash of raw muscle, brilliant invention, and the moral choices that could decide the destiny of an entire world.
