Boy Scouts in the Coal Caverns; Or, The Light in Tunnel Six

Four seasoned members of the Beaver Patrol—Will, George, Sandy and Tommy—find themselves in the dim, dust‑laden breaker of the Labyrinth mine, summoned by a weary caretaker and a shadowy New York lawyer. Armed with Scout uniforms, medallions for ambulance aid, stalking and pioneering, they’ve already trekked Pictured Rocks, the Everglades and icy Hudson Bay, but this assignment is unlike any they’ve faced. Their task: locate two vanished breaker boys, Jimmie Maynard and Dick Thompson, whose disappearance has left a small fortune and a lingering mystery deep beneath the earth.

As night falls on a November evening, the scouts must rely on their training, teamwork and a keen eye for clues amid flickering electric light and echoing tunnels. The mine’s silence hides more than dust—rumors of danger, hidden passages, and the uncertainty of what—or who—might still be lurking underground.
