The Manor School

A thirteen‑year‑old girl named Christian lives in the grand house on Russell Square, but her true home is the spacious attic she has claimed since childhood. There she creates a vivid, private kingdom where dolls become daring crusaders, wandering gypsies, or wounded heroes, and she loses herself in the roles of mermaids, tin soldiers, and legendary figures. Her imagination transforms ordinary rooms into battlefields, forests, and royal courts, giving her a secret world far richer than the polite expectations of her teachers and governesses.

Outside the attic, Christian is judged as a quiet, unremarkable child, praised only faintly by adults who see little imagination in her. The story follows her struggle to reconcile the vibrant inner life she nurtures with the restrained image imposed upon her, hinting at the possibilities that arise when a young mind refuses to be confined by others’ doubts.
