When a brawl erupts at the Gallup House, the local hub of gossip and whiskey, even the most seasoned residents brace for the inevitable chaos.

The fight begins between Barny McCuin and Mexicali Joe, a down‑and‑out prospector who rarely has money, but tonight splurges on corn whiskey. In the scuffle Joe’s coat tears open, spilling a handful of raw gold that instantly ignites greed and suspicion among the onlookers. Young Gallup, the hard‑nosed proprietor, steps in, demanding the glittering nuggets be returned to their owner while warning that no one will be robbed under his roof. As the townspeople stare at the glittering promise of wealth, old rivalries flare and the fragile peace of Big Pine trembles on the brink of a new, dangerous frenzy.
