A humble family lives on the edge of a forest, where a father sends his three sons to chop wood. The youngest, Tyhmyri, is constantly mocked and dismissed, yet he insists on joining his brothers. When he ventures alone, a mysterious gray old man asks for a share of his meager provisions. Tyhmyri offers what he has, and in return the stranger blesses him with a golden‑feathered goose hidden in a fallen tree.
Carrying the enchanted bird, Tyhmyri stops at a roadside inn where three curious sisters each covet a golden feather. Their greedy attempts cause the bird’s plumes to cling to them, turning a simple visit into a tangled chase. Soon a bewildered clergyman and a startled student find themselves caught in the frantic pursuit, adding to the comic chaos that follows Tyhmyri’s unexpected fortune.
