In a frozen wilderness where the sky glows with a distant red star, a nomadic tribe treks across barren peaks, chasing the promise of sustenance that never arrives. Their leader, Atanta, bears the weight of ancient rites and the desperate hope that his magic might summon a miracle—a beast large enough to feed them through the harsh winter. After forty days of fruitless hunting, the group reaches the mouth of the Cave of the Fallen Sun, hoping the darkness will offer shelter from the relentless cold.
Inside the cavern, the hunters return empty‑handed, and the tribe’s morale wanes as hunger gnaws at their spirits. Atanta must confront his own doubt, the silence of the gods, and the stark reality that survival may depend on more than ritual. The tension between faith and famine sets the stage for a struggle that will test the limits of endurance and belief.

A poet, critic, and Catholic man of letters, he helped shape mid-20th-century literary culture through both his writing and his small-press publishing work. His life joined poetry, faith, and a strong belief that serious literature should reach ordinary readers.
