Description

When the third Earth landing party touches down on the barren Martian plain, the crew—engineer Von Frisch, Captain Powers, and a few others—are suddenly faced with a small group of native beings. The Martians are taller than humans, with round bodies, long limbs, and oversized eyes, moving cautiously toward the explorers. Both sides are wary; the Earth team is instructed to keep their distance while trying to learn whether the visitors are hostile or merely curious.

Von Frisch decides to use the one universal language he knows: mathematics. He sketches a right‑angled triangle in the red sand, marking three units on one side and four on the other. A Martian, with a delicate finger, adds five marks along the hypotenuse, instantly confirming the Pythagorean theorem. Encouraged, Von Frisch draws a simple solar diagram, pointing to Earth and Mars, attempting to convey their identities.

The tentative exchange raises more questions than answers, leaving the crew and the Martians poised on the brink of a deeper dialogue. Listeners are invited to follow the unfolding challenge of bridging two vastly different worlds, where every gesture could become the key to understanding.
