A young boy named Bob is torn from his English home and sold into a life of hardship, first as a beggar’s charge and then under the care of a gypsy woman. Growing up among strangers, he learns quickly how to survive, listening to the harsh truths of a world where children are bought and sold for a few shillings. When a chance at freedom appears, he is thrust onto a ship where a sudden mutiny erupts, forcing him to adapt to the brutal rhythm of life at sea.
The voyage takes him far beyond familiar waters, steering toward the distant coasts of Africa. As the ship battles storms and the crew grapples with fear, Bob begins to glimpse the vast, unfamiliar landscapes and cultures that await him. These early experiences set the stage for a life of daring travel and encounters that will test his courage and wit at every turn.

Best known for "Robinson Crusoe," this restless English writer turned a turbulent life in trade, politics, and journalism into some of the most vivid prose of the early novel. His work mixes adventure, social observation, and the sharp eye of a born pamphleteer.
