In a future where the Earth's surface has become a deadly wasteland, humanity has retreated deep underground. The story follows Samuel Carson, a medical director for the Re‑Education Project, as he navigates the sterile corridors of a heavily guarded facility, where scanners test every citizen’s suitability for the grueling process of reshaping bodies to survive the hostile world above. The daily routine is punctuated by the ever‑present threat of surface‑side explosions, reminding everyone that the world they left is still fighting back.
Carson’s latest assignment thrusts him into a political tug‑of‑war between the military commander Colonel Mudgett and a restless public demanding a return to the surface. When a controversial speech by a high‑ranking official sparks an outcry, the two men debate a risky plan to re‑educate the politician himself, hoping to sway public opinion and keep the underground program alive. Tension builds as they weigh the ethics of manipulation against the desperate hope of reclaiming the world above.
