A group of adventurous boys set out to turn their summer woods into a makeshift circus, gathering a motley crew of animals—from a crowing hen to a three‑legged cat—while wrestling with the most troublesome performer of all: a clever monkey they call Mr. Stubbs’s brother. Their plans quickly become a comedy of mishaps as they try to restrain the mischievous primate, fashion tents, and figure out how to keep the show moving without it escaping.
Meanwhile, the boys must balance their excitement with responsibility, especially when a sick friend, Abrow, threatens to miss the opening. Debates flare over whether to wait for his recovery or press ahead, and the gang scrambles to create posters, tickets, and a schedule that fits their school calendar. Their youthful ingenuity and camaraderie turn a simple idea into a lively, chaotic rehearsal that promises a memorable performance—if they can keep the animals in line long enough to see it through.
