Edvin Calamnius

1864–1927

A Finnish customs official who also wrote under the pen names Esko Virtala, Esko Wirtala, and Esko Waltala, he left behind work that connects everyday public life with literary ambition. Born in Kemi in 1864 and later active in Pietarsaari, he is remembered as both a civil servant and a writer.
