Sea Plunder

A weather‑worn sea captain, known simply as “the Captain,” wanders the San Francisco wharves with a reputation forged by wars, gold‑rush digs and a few lost ships. Though his looks remain impeccably neat, luck has left him idle, and the bustling harbor offers little more than the idle chatter of freighters and the distant pull of distant ports. He’s at a crossroads, wondering whether to retreat into the safety of a modest crew or chase the uncertain life of a tramp sailor.

His contemplation is interrupted when an old associate, Billy Harman, arrives with a strange proposition: a private venture involving a cable‑laying ship that needs a seasoned skipper and a trusted first mate. The job promises a handsome monthly wage and a tempting bonus, but the details are vague and the risks unclear. Intrigued and wary, the Captain must decide if this shadowy offer is the chance to restore his fortunes—or another perilous tide to navigate.
