On a bright summer morning a lively troop of Brownie Scouts arrives at Silver Beach for a ten‑day seaside camp. Led by the cheerful Miss Gordon, the girls—Vevi, Connie, Jane, Sunny and Rosemary—spend their first day exploring the sand, the surf, and each other’s company. A daring plunge into a rolling wave leaves Vevi humbled and nursing a skinned elbow, reminding everyone that the ocean can be both inviting and unforgiving. Their laughter soon turns to curiosity when Jane discovers a smooth, gray disc that Miss Gordon identifies as a sand dollar, sparking a hunt for more treasures along the tide‑lined shore.
Encouraged by their find, the scouts imagine a shell exhibition and a deeper study of sea life, birds, and the mysteries of the salty sea. Miss Gordon promises lessons in marine science and, for the afternoon, a swimming clinic with the friendly lifeguard Barney Fulsom. As the girls gather their buckets and nets, the beach becomes a classroom where friendship, discovery, and a love of the ocean begin to blossom.
