In the high reaches of the snow‑capped Elburs, a lone hunter named Haoma climbs the ancient paths that wind past the towering Demavend peak. He pauses on a ridge, offering a reverent prayer to the unseen spirit of Ormuzd before shouldering his bow and tracking a swift mountain goat through craggy cliffs. The chase leads him to a hidden valley where distant fires glow from the southern city of Ragh, while a dark citadel looms on a distant hill, hinting at unseen forces that linger in the shadows.
As twilight deepens, Haoma abandons the hunt, washes in the clear mountain stream, and returns to his modest grotto. There, his faithful guard dog Kerivan greets him with a wagging tail, a quiet reminder of home after a day spent among the lofty peaks and whispered legends of the north.

A Finnish man of letters who moved easily between writing, teaching, translation, and the theater, he brought a refined, European outlook to Finnish cultural life.
