Set against the glittering lights of Darpore City and the moon‑lit waters of a jade lake, the story opens with Lord Victor Gilfain and Captain Swinton arriving at a princely palace in India. There they meet Prince Ananda, a charismatic heir who balances the traditions of his heritage with the modern education he received in England.
