Jimmy Torrance is a senior at a storied university, celebrated on the football field and baseball diamond. As the final night of his college career arrives, he steps into a packed gym for the boxing championship that will seal his reputation among his peers. The bout against a mysterious freshman opponent ends in a brutal fourth‑round knockout, leaving Jimmy triumphant but bruised.
The victory quickly gives way to a different kind of battle: the relentless demands of academia and the inscrutable machinations of the faculty. When a lanky, oddly dressed student bursts into Jimmy’s room with a summons from “Whiskers,” the stern university president, Jimmy is thrust into a looming tribunal that threatens to test more than his physical stamina. As he prepares to face the professors, the story explores the clash between youthful confidence and the weight of institutional expectations.
