In the depths of a dark, emerald‑green cavern beneath an alien world, a majestic mer‑woman reigns over a hidden city of countless beings. Her luminous, serpentine form and haunting song have kept the isolated population bound to the watery realm for generations, until a lone human traveler from the stars arrives, sharing their own solitude.
The goddess reveals a looming disaster: the planet is being drawn toward one of two suns, whose fierce radiation will soon render the underground haven uninhabitable. As the inhabitants scramble to launch a fleet of escape vessels, she declares she will stay, accepting the inevitable fate of her watery kingdom. The story follows the tension between ancient duty and desperate survival, exploring what it means to confront a cosmic end when the only home you know is about to disappear.

A pulp-era writer and artist, he became one of the most controversial figures in mid-century speculative fiction through the sensational “Shaver Mystery” stories published in Amazing Stories. His work mixed science fiction, hidden-world mythology, and outsider imagination in a way that still sparks curiosity.
