Jimmy is an eight‑year‑old boy with a long, formal name and a life that feels oddly unfinished. Living at a tiny seaside school, he watches his classmates chatter about families he has never truly known, while his own parents have been absent for years and his aunt’s letters grow quiet. When the school’s headmistress falls ill and the boys are told they’ll be sent home, Jimmy’s anxiety spikes as he wonders whether anyone will meet him at the train station.
The next morning, a railway van arrives, and Jimmy learns he must travel to London despite the uncertainty surrounding his uncle’s response. As he packs his clothes and toys, the prospect of a new city and the hope of finally connecting with the family he’s only heard about begin to stir his imagination. The story follows his tentative steps into an unfamiliar world, where the search for belonging and the mystery of his past start to unfold.
