Description

A humble fisherman named Urashima lives a simple life along Japan’s coast, his only ambition to catch a good fish. One sweltering afternoon his line pulls up an ancient tortoise, and his compassion spares the creature. In gratitude, the sea‑god’s daughter appears, revealing that the “tortoise” was a test of his kindness and inviting him to the wondrous Dragon Palace beneath the waves.

Inside the palace, coral walls sparkle, emerald‑leafed trees bear ruby fruit, and dragons glide with golden tails, creating a realm of breathtaking beauty. Urashima spends three blissful years as the sea‑god’s son‑in‑law, but eventually yearns to see his own world again. He is given a sealed box with a stern warning never to open it, and upon returning to shore he discovers that centuries have passed, his village vanished, and only mystery remains about how to reunite with his beloved from the depths.
