Don Mallory, a tired clerk at the United States Patent Office, finally gathers the nerve to ask his secretary Joyce for a promotion. Their mundane routine is interrupted by a frantic knock and the flamboyant arrival of Pat Pending, the notorious inventor famed for outlandish gadgets. Pat storms in, waving a typewriter stamped with his own name and bragging about a cigar‑shaped spaceship that could fetch a fortune among the stars. The office is instantly thrown into chaotic, comic turmoil.
Pat rattles off claims of having built everything from the first airplane to a jet‑propelled saucer, pulling Don and Joyce into a whirlwind of impossible projects and absurd deadlines. Their attempts to keep pace with his wild ideas force them to confront the absurdity of their own ambitions and the labyrinthine bureaucracy around them. Filled with witty banter and a cast of eccentric characters, the story offers a light‑hearted glimpse into a world where imagination collides with red‑tape, delivering plenty of laughs before the real adventure lifts off.
