Four young rabbits live with their mother in a cozy burrow beneath a towering pine. She gently cautions them to stay away from the neighboring farmer’s garden, recalling the tragic fate of their father. While the other three siblings head for the berry patches, the mischievous Pierre can’t resist the lure of the forbidden plot.
Inside the garden, Pierre discovers a dazzling array of fresh greens—beans, lettuce, radishes—and indulges until his stomach protests. His careless dash draws the angry cries of Mr. Mac Grégor, who chases the tiny intruder with a rake and a determined glare. Pierre’s frantic hops send him tumbling into a trellis, a net, and even a water‑filled sprayer, turning his escape into a slapstick scramble.
Exhausted and bewildered, Pierre finds himself lost among rows of vegetables, his bright blue jacket tangled in a garden net. A chorus of sympathetic sparrows offers a fleeting hint of help, but the rabbit still has no idea how to return to the safety of his burrow. The adventure teeters between danger and delight, inviting listeners to follow Pierre’s nervous yet hopeful quest.

Beloved for creating Peter Rabbit and a whole cast of memorable animals, she paired gentle humor with beautifully observed illustrations. Her stories still feel fresh because they come from a real love of nature, country life, and the mischievous side of childhood.
