In the frozen wilderness, Pete Noël lives alone among the towering pines, his modest shack the only sign of civilization for miles. One night a sudden blaze engulfs his cabin, forcing him to awaken in a nightmare of heat and smoke. Instinct and training take over as he darts into the snow, clutching his rifle, blankets, and a few essential supplies.
Pete’s quick thinking saves him from the inferno, but the fire leaves him exposed to a harsh, four‑foot‑deep snowdrift with no food and no nearby settlement. Rather than despair, he adopts a philosopher’s calm, cataloguing the items in his coat pockets and weighing his options for survival. As the charred remains of his home smolder, he must decide whether to brave the cold, trek toward distant lumber camps, or find another way to turn the wreckage into a temporary refuge.
