A spirited band of youthful adventurers gathers on the banks of the Limpopo, their camp lit by a crackling fire. Among them are the thoughtful naturalist Hans, eager to extend his botanical studies, and the restless Groot Willem, driven by the lure of untamed game. Alongside them sit the eager brothers Hendrik and Arend, whose hearts are torn between the thrill of the hunt and the pull of home, love, and familiar comforts.
Together with a seasoned bushman and a local guide, they set out on horseback, abandoning wagons to reach what Willem calls “the Promised Land.” Their expedition promises encounters with Africa’s remarkable wildlife and landscapes, while each traveler wrestles with personal ambitions, friendships, and the delicate balance between civilization and the wild. Listeners will be drawn into the vivid tableau of early colonial Africa, feeling the heat of the savanna, the excitement of the chase, and the camaraderie that binds these young hunters together.
