A modest farm in the Midwest is barely holding together under the weight of a crushing mortgage. Mark Nelson and his wife keep the household afloat with quiet determination, while their teenage children watch the strain with a mixture of worry and hope. Their oldest son, Tom, is on the cusp of manhood, already questioning the unequal distribution of wealth and dreaming of a life beyond the fields that have defined his family for generations.
When the family’s financial pressures become unbearable, Tom decides that the only way to help is to leave the familiar hills and head west across the open plains. Armed with a fierce curiosity and a willingness to work hard, he sets out on a journey that promises both danger and opportunity. Along the way, he will encounter strangers, face the harsh realities of frontier life, and discover what true independence really means.
